Squash bugs devour leaves
poison roots of blooming plants
extermination
The summer of 2012, I planted squash in my sandy, desert backyard in our Hopi home in Arizona. Of course, I didn’t read about protecting squash plants from squash bugs until they appeared and it was too late. The poor soil attracted the bugs and every means of trying to protect my plants and to be natural and non-violent to the bugs was futile. By the end, I took up the slogan of the robot like alien creatures on Doctor Who – “exterminate.”
