Hopi grandma sat on the trailer steps
saw the ancient spirits dancing.
Drunk and beat the homeless man cried
“Love is lost before it’s too late.”
Only a fool tries to handle
a mandolin like a guitar.
The lawyer said, with some distaste,
“Please stop filling my case, filling my case.”
In the deepening shade of twilight time
a nightingale mournfully sang.
To satisfy its hunger, the shark
swiftly flew to the depths of the sea.
A rare rainbow rushed to earth
while a million stars devoured the sun.

Tell me, what are your thoughts on the following quote?
If you can tell stories, create characters, devise incidents, and have sincerity and passion, it doesn’t matter a damn how you write.

ODE TO ANGELOU

This young poet has written a fitting tribute for Maya Angelou – whose loss is being felt around the world.
i
You may write me down in history
With faint acclaims of martyrhood
But we were all heroes for living
We faced and trod in this world’s dirt
And still, like dust, we rise
ii
To the stars from which we came
You won’t see us any longer
But we’ll be back with new faces
Hungry minds, stronger hearts?
There is no stopping change
How many teardrops did we catch
On our shoulders? That day, those years?
iii
We were shot with words, and killed
By discrimination, prejudice and politics
We outlived history, with our soulful cry?
Because we believed in doing Good
Doing good anywhere is good everywhere
iv
We took the time to speak to the people
Without being victims or seeing enemies
You may write me down as anonymous
But I strove to be a good citizen
To laugh and cry in balanced measure

Universes

One hundred billion universes
The comforting hand of sleep
Answers to life’s big questions
Between lines of poetry
In the morning sunrise
Inspiration flows
One hundred billion universes
Small the heart beating
Seeking solace in this vast space
Sage spiritualists say
Love is all there is
A speck in this void
Of timelessness
